Simple Quilled Floral Card

Have you ever tried paper quilling? This technique adds such a unique dimension to handmade cards, and pairing it with quality cardstock makes the details really stand out. Hey there! Judy here today sharing a simple quilled, floral thank you card featuring beautiful cardstock from CutCardStock.

Each flower has a bright yellow quilled center, purple outline petals, and flowing green quilled vines that add movement and elegance to the design. The delicate curls of the vines bring a whimsical feel to the card.

Card Base/Background

For this design, start by creating the card base and background.

Create a 5 1/2 inch square card base with Classic Linen Solar White 100 lb Cardstock.

Cut a mat layer with DCS Textured Plum Purple Cardstock measuring 5 1/4 inches square.

DCS Textured Hydrangea Purple Cardstock is cut to approximately 4 3/4 inches square for a second mat.

Adhere the two purple mats to the white card base.

Flower Panels

Die cut three stitched square panels from Classic Linen Solar White 100 lb Cardstock. The squares measure 1 3/4 inches.

Create the flower centers by rolling 1/8 inch x 8 1/2 inch strips of DCS Canvas Textured Rubber Ducky Yellow Cardstock into tight coils. Use a slotted quilling tool for this step. Roll all the way to the end. Pull off the tool and glue the end.. Glue to the center of the white square.

Form the flower petals with 1/8 x 1 3/4 inch pieces of DCS Textured Plum Purple Cardstock.

Curve the strips by pulling between the thumb and fore finger. This helps to shape the petals. Hold the strips with tweezers and run the edge through the glue. Place the ends against the flower center and shape the petals into loops.

Form quilled vines with 1/8 inch strips in various lengths of Lessebo Hunter Green Cardstock. Loosely roll one end of the strips with the quilling tool.

Die cut the “Thanks Very Much” sentiment from Classic Linen Solar White 100 lb Cardstock.

Finishing

Adhere the squares and sentiment to the card.

The quilled “vines” go on last to complete.

This card is a great example of how combining paper quilling with layered cardstock can create a striking handmade design. The vibrant colors and dimensional flowers make it perfect for sending a heartfelt thank you.
