Let's Create a Halloween Folio

Looking for a way to preserve some fun Halloween memories? A compact Halloween Folio is the perfect way to do so! Judy here. Follow along with me and I’ll show you how to create one with products from CutCardStock.

The finished folio measures 4¼ x 6¼ x ½ inches, making it easy to tuck onto a bookshelf or display on a desk while still offering plenty of room inside for memories.

Cutting the Cover Piece

Start the project by cutting a piece of Kraft Chipboard .022 to 11 x 7 1/4 inches for the folio cover. Score at 4 1/4, 4 3/4 and 9 inches along the 11 inch side. Score at 1/2 and 6 3/4 inches on the shorter side. Cut away the 1/2 inch score lines down to the 9 inch score line to form tabs for a pocket. Notch the tab portions by cutting from the edge to the score line diagonally.

This piece will form the cover of the folio.

Creating Interactive Pieces

The next pieces will form the interactive parts of the folio.

Cut 2 pieces of Kraft Chipboard measuring 4 1/8 x 6 3/4 inches. Score these at 1/2 and 3 5/8 on the long side. Notch the 1/2 inch ends as above forming tabs.

Cut 1 piece to 3 7/8 x 4 1/4 inches, Score at 1/2 inch on the 3 7/8 inch side.

Cut 1 piece to 4 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches. Score at 3 1/4 inches on the longer side.

Decorating the Panels

Next step is to cover each of the Kraft Chipboard panels with Lessebo Brick Orange cardstock and pattern papers from Halloween 6×6 Cardstock Pad.

The solid cardstock panels are cut to 1/4 smaller than each of the chipboard sections. Cut the pattern papers 1/8 smaller than the solid. Adhere the pattern paper pieces to the solid card stock before applying to the folio pieces.

Start with the front and back cover of the folio as seen below.

Cover both sides of each interactive panel.

Putting the Folio Together

Add the interactive panels to the inside front cover by adhering the tabs as seen below.

Adhere decorative pieces to the inside folio cover. These pieces are cut the same way as all the others.

The far right panel with notches will form a pocket by folding to the left. Fold the notches in and adhere.

Finishing the Front

Fold the interactive elements in and you’re ready to decorate the front cover.

First, attach a ribbon on the front, around to the back to hold the folio closed. A strong double sided tape works well for adhering.

Stamp, color and/or die cut elements for decoration.

Adhere and you’re done!

Folios are a wonderful way to showcase photos, tuck away notes, or create a unique seasonal gift. The smooth, high-quality cardstock from CutCardStock provides the perfect foundation for interactive pages, pockets, and layered decorations, making every detail stand out.

Whether you’re documenting Halloween memories, creating a gift for a friend, or simply enjoying some seasonal crafting, a handmade folio is a fun way to celebrate the season. Prepare a 5 x 6 1/2 card base by cutting a piece of Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb cardstock to 10 x 6 1/2 inches. Score and fold at 5 inches along the 10 inch side.

Cut a 5 x 6 1/2 inch piece of Lessebo Aubergine cardstock to cover card base. a piece of Lessebo Brick Orangecardstock is cut to 4 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches for matting.

Rediscovering the Border Punch: Creating an Ombre Card

Sometimes the best crafting tools are the ones we haven’t reached for in years!

I'm here today with my latest CutCardStock project.
I pulled a long-forgotten border punch from my stash and gave it a fresh new purpose.
Instead of using it simply along the edge of a card, I
used the punched designs to create a fun ombre background for this birthday card.

The combination of purple, lavender, black, white, and

pops of yellow creates a bold floral-inspired design, while

the large dimensional flower and birthday sentiment finish the card beautifully.

Cardstock

Other Supplies

  • Border punch with a floral or decorative design
  • Paper trimmer
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Adhesive
  • Flower dies or die-cut flower pieces
  • Birthday sentiment die

Creating the Ombre Background

1. Choose Your Color Palette

Start by selecting several coordinating cardstock colors. I chose white, lavender, purple, black, and yellow for this design.

2. Card Base

Cut a piece of Lessebo Pitch Black cardstock to 10 x 6 1/2 inches. Score at 5 inches along the 10 inch side, fold and burnish to form as 5 x 6 1/2 inch card base.

A piece of Bright Foil Silver cardstock is cut to 4 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches for a matting panel.

Cut a piece of Cougar White Smooth cardstock to 4 5/8 x 6 1/8 inches for the background.

3. Punch the Borders

Here’s where that forgotten crafting tool comes in!

Cut 1 strip each of the white, black, aubergine, plum, grape jelly and hydrangea cardstocks.

Also cut three 1/4 inch strips of the silver cardstock.

Use your border punch along one long edge of each cardstock strip.

Make sure the punch design is lined up consistently so

the patterns will repeat when the strips are placed together.

Tip: Before punching all of your pieces, do a test punch on a scrap strip. This will help you determine exactly where the pattern needs to begin and end.

4. Add the Punched Strips

Arrange the punched strips onto the white background panel starting from the bottom to top. Arrange the colors from darkest to lightest to create the ombre background.

5. Add the Metallic Accents

Adhere the strips of silver cardstock where

the straight edges of the punched strips come together.

These little strips add just enough shine to break up the pattern and

give the finished card a polished look.

6. Assemble the Card Front

The completed background panel was then layered onto

the silver matting panel attached to the black card base.

Creating the Focal Flower

For the focal point, I created a large dimensional flower die cut

with Pop Tone Grape Jelly cardstock.

I added additional dimension by layering the flower petals and

finished the center with a contrasting Lessebo Sunflower Yellow flower center.

A small Lessebo Pitch Black layer between the purple flower and yellow center

helps define all of the individual pieces.

The flower was adhered toward the upper left portion of the card,

overlapping the color-blocked background slightly.

Adding the Sentiment

For the sentiment, I used a “Happy Birthday“ die cut from Lessebo Pitch Black cardstock.

I positioned it in the upper right portion of the card where

it balances the large flower without competing with the background pattern.

Finishing Touches

The final touch was adding small yellow circles, punched with a hole punch,

throughout the punched floral rows.

These coordinate with the center of the focal flower and

create the appearance of little flower centers scattered across the background.

I love how these small details help tie the entire design together!

A New Way to Look at an Old Tool

This project was a great reminder that sometimes we don’t need the newest crafting tool to create something fresh and interesting. A border punch that had been sitting unused in my stash became the star of the background!

Try looking through your own collection of “forgotten” tools. A border punch, decorative scissors, punches, or even an older die can often be used in a completely different way than originally intended.

What forgotten crafting tool do you have hiding in your stash? Pull it out and give it a new life—you may be surprised by what you can create!

Elegant Wedding Card with Stamping, Embossing & Die Cutting

Handmade wedding cards are always a treasured keepsake, and combining elegant techniques like stamping, heat embossing, dry embossing, and dimensional die cutting creates a design that’s both timeless and sophisticated.

For today’s CutCardStock project, I paired shimmering cardstock with layered florals, gold accents, and a beautifully embossed bridal image to create a romantic card perfect for celebrating a special couple.

The soft blush palette, pearl embellishments, and quilted embossed background give this card an elegant, luxurious feel while highlighting the beauty of premium cardstock.

Supplies

CutCardStock

Other Supplies

  • Wedding couple stamp
  • Gold embossing powder
  • Embossing ink
  • Heat tool
  • Quilted embossing folder
  • Heart scalloped dies
  • Layered flower dies or flower punches
  • Leaf die & berry sprig die
  • “Forever” sentiment die
  • Die cutting machine
  • Pearls
  • Foam adhesive
  • Liquid glue

Instructions

Step 1

Create a 6″ x 6″ card base from Cougar White 12 x 12 Cardstock. Cut a mat from Bright Foil Gold Cardstock to 6″ x 6″. Also cut a mat from Stardream Metallic Coral Cardstock to 5 3/4″ x 5 3/4″.

Adhere both mats to the card base.

Step 2

Die cut a large scalloped heart from Bright Foil Gold Cardstock and another slightly smaller heart from Stardream Metallic Crystal Cardstock.

Emboss the crystal heart with a quilted embossing folder.

Layer them together and adhere them to the card front.

Step 3

Stamp the wedding couple image onto Cougar White Cardstock using embossing ink. Cover with gold embossing powder, tap away the excess, and heat emboss until smooth and shiny. Die cut or fussy cut the image.

Step 5

Die cut layered flowers using Lessebo Blossom Pink Cardstock and DCS Canvas Textured Flamingo Cardstock. Shape the petals with a shaping tool or your fingers for added dimension.

Step 6

Die cut several leaf sprigs from DCS Canvas Textured Galax Olive Green Cardstock. Cut berry sprigs from DCS Canvas Textured Flamingo Cardstock.

Step 7

Adhere the embossed wedding couple image on the right side of the heart with foam adhesive.

Step 8

Arrange the flowers and leaves in the lower left portion of the heart, building layers with foam adhesive to create depth. Add pearl embellishments to the flower centers.

Step 9

Die cut the “Forever” sentiment from Gold Foil Cardstock and adhere it near the top of the oval.

Step 10

Finish the design by adding pearl embellishments across the quilted background for a soft, elegant sparkle.

Finishing Touches

This card showcases how combining several papercrafting techniques can create a beautifully layered design. The shine of the Bright Foil Gold Cardstock contrasts perfectly with the soft pastel florals, while the embossed bridal image and quilted background add rich texture without overwhelming the focal point. Premium cardstock from CutCardStock makes each layer crisp, clean and professional, helping every detail stand out.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope this project inspires you to combine stamping, embossing, and die cutting to create elegant handmade wedding cards for the special celebrations in your life. Until next time!
