Beach Week with a Fun Side Step Card

Hey there! We're celebrating Beach Week at Pajama Crafter Stamps! 

I’m sharing a bright, playful and fun side step card inspired by sunny days, ocean breezes, and all the fun of summertime!

Side step cards are perfect for scene building because the layered design creates natural dimension—making it easy to bring a beach-themed card to life.

Supplies

Cardstock
Pencil colors or markers
Ink
Paper trimmer
Score board and bone folder
Scissors
Adhesive

Create the Card Base

Start by constructing a side step card base cut from a 7 1/2 x 11inch piece of sturdy cardstock. This will create a 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 inch finished card.

Lightly score or draw a light pencil line down the center (3 3/4 inches) along the 7 1/2 inch side. Turn to the right and score at 5 1/2 inches (11 inch side) to the center line. Turn back to the left to the 11 inch side and score at 3 1/2, 6 3/4, 7 1/2, 9 and 10 inches. Cut from the 3 1/2 inch score line down to the 10 inch score line.

Fold and burnish along the score lines to create the stepped platform effect.

Stamp and Color

Stamp images from the Beach Huts and Dog Days of Summer stamp sets on white cardstock. Color with preferred medium. I used Prismacolor Pencils. Choose a flashcard from the Beach Retreat Flashcards.

Color the flashcard and ink the background. Trim down to 3 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches.

Next, cut out the stamped images. Create 3 small scenes, one for each side step.

Inking white cardstock and tearing into into strips adds some interest. Adhere to background pieces of cardstock, then add the stamped images.

Completing the Design

Adhere the flashcard to the left side of the card and the 3 small scenes to the side steps on the right. The 3 small scenes come together for 1 bigger scene!
